2018 Leadership Conference

WGHS DRAMA Troupe 191 was represented once again at the MO Thespian Leadership Conference at the Capital Plaza Hotel in Jefferson City MO.

It was a two day conference and there were a lot of schools in attendance. We filled the main banquet room at the hotel.

We left school at 12:30 on Friday and returned at 6:30pm on Saturday evening.

The several of our Troupe 191 student officers attended along with Mr. Schaefer (who drove the group there and back)

It turned out to be a great experience for everyone and we came back energized and full of great ideas for our upcoming season.

The theme this year for our
MO State Thespian Conference is "Circus"

They had some really great decoration up for the Leadership Conference to help get everyone excited about this year's theme at state.

Here is Trinity Madison (STO) posing behind one of the great displays they had up
that we are certain will be displayed at State this year.

FRIDAY

LEADERSHIP Q & A with Trinity

Mr. Schafer attended the meeting Trinity was holding on Friday night. It was a wonderful opportunity for students to share certain operational details of their individual troupe and departments.

We discussed shows, auditions, department size, classes offered, fundraising, facilities, budgets, thespians, initiation, State, and tons of other stuff. It was inspirational to see how many passionate students there are working in the theater today.

There were about 15 school represented in the room...maybe more.

This conference offered a few events on Friday night and because we have a member of our troupe on the student board we like to be there for our STO. We also had the opportunity to check into our rooms, get registered with the Adult Board, go over the paperwork, meet and greet some of the other students attending, get some dinner, hold a brief officer meeting, get our banner hung, and attend the evening workshops the STO's planned.

They had fabulous Karaoke provided by the STO's

SATURDAY

Our officers decided we had to get a breakfast first. We decided to hit Panera and the service was excruciatingly slow. We finally got all of our food and coffee, sat with some another STO and an STO elect.

Having some java and trying to wake up for the day ahead...

We started the day in the banquet room and a General Meeting at 8:30am.  A lot of other school had arrived by then and the conference had officially started.

Trinity and the rest of the STO's addressing the audience for the first time as STO's.

We voted on T-shirt designs for State (which Trinity competed), and we were told about the upcoming STO election at the end of the day. Our MO Chapter Director spoke briefly and gave some shout outs and some info about State.

                The schedule for Leadership

Everyone split up for different information session. We learned about the All State show, fundraising ideas, the IE events, Leadership skills, Improv Team Games, and some of the great activities that we have added to the State schedule to bring even more opportunities for involvement and more ways to compete.

We learned that our state conference will return to St Louis in two years and we will be staying at Union Station and performing the shows in the Peabody. That is sooooo exciting for us!

We came back together for Lunch (provided for us) and then we went back out to more workshops in the afternoon. The teachers had a sponsor meeting that covered details of finance and business. Then we came back together for STO elect speeches and voting.
